FREE - In The Country - intro to Water Painters

In The Country

My latest FB live on Monday (11 of 52 beginning stamping techniques series) was more beginning watercoloring techniques, but this time introducing Stazon Ink and Water Painters.

I once again used the FREE In The country stamp set from January to February 28, 2023 Sale-a-bration Catalog. For the beginner, these images just do not disappoint. This stamp set is FREE when you purchase $50 or more from my store. Do you have a Sale-a-bration catalog? If not, reach out to me and I’ll send you one!

This time is used the vertical image from In The Country FREE stamp set, with the old stone cottage stair and door, using only four colors in both images.

Once again I used a Blender Pen for watercoloring for the first image, and as before, used Shimmery White CS, as it holds up better than regular cardstock and doesn’t dissolve or pill-up as easily. For both cards, I used a 3-1/2"x4-3/4" layer of Shimmery White CS, a 3-5/8"x4-7/8" layer of Old Olive CS on a 5-1/2”x8-1/2” card base in Sahara Sand CS, folded in half to an A2 card. This time, however, I used Stazon Jet Black Ink to stamp the image.

For the ink colors, I used Sahara Sand, Old Olive, Coastal Cabana, and Flirty Flamingo. I like to keep my watercolors simple for small images, and to make sure they have the complimentary colors to give the eye a soothing place to land.

As you will note from the video, I used the ink from the inside of my Classic Stampin’ Ink pads and just refreshed the blender pen as needed. Be loose in your coloring, trying not to go over the same area multiple times as that makes the paper degrade. Mostly, just relax and have fun! This can be soothing way to color your projects.

I introduced Water Painters for this card. The handle of the Water Painters hold water, so it is easy to add water to the ink to get the results you are looking for. When using water painters, be sure to let areas dry when you are trying to change colors.

I used the same measurements and ink colors as before, but just changed the door color. You can see that the images look a little different, as watercoloring does tend to be a lighter coloring medium, but if you want more concentrated colors, you can continue to add the ink to the area you wanted darkened. Check out the video below for more tips.
