Wild Ferns - Cards & Scrapbooking for Fall

Wild Ferns

I am obsessed with ferns and have been since seeing them in person for the first time when I was living on the west side of Washington State and visiting the rain forests on the peninsula! Ever since, I always have an eye out on my daily walks and weekly forest hikes.

While the Wild Ferns Stamp Set and Dies are no longer a bundle, there is so much to love about both. I purchased this last spring, but with everything that happened this summer, I had to delay playing with it until now. The sentiments are so lovely and the dies are so fun!

Wishing You Well…

This sweet & simple card makes a great masculine card that can convert to a birthday, congratulations or even get well! I love that kind of versatility. For this weeks Marvelous Monday Facebook Live, I featured a couple of simple cards using the Memories & More Cards & Envelopes.

For this card, I used a 4”x6” piece of the Country Woods 12”x12” DSP and stamped my sentiment right on it in Copper Clay Ink. I then used two pieces of Basic White Thick to cover the sentiment and emboss it with the Fern 3D Embossing Folder. It protected the sentiment enough to allow most of the embossing to be around the sentiment, rather than through the sentiment.

I then used a Blending Brush and starting from the edge, brought a little Copper Clay ink to the raised surface of the paper and darken the perimeter. I then distressed the edges enough that there was a few tears (embrace the distressing).

I glued a 4-1/4”x6-1/4” of Copper Clay Cardstock to cover the card base, then glued the embossed DSP to the card front. For the envelope, I added a scrap to the left side and then a little Copper Clay ink with the Blending Brush. Super easy card for those handsome guys in your life!

Heartfelt Condolences

There is something so simple yet elegant about this card. Again I used the Country Woods DSP for the printed panels, sentiment and envelope flap. You do not always need to stamp on white cardstock! In fact, using a subtle print behind your stamped images can make your card go from awe, to WOW!! I used the Greetings of the Season Dies for the 3 panels and stamped using the Wild Ferns stamp set in Winter Wheat ink.

I glued the 3 panels to a 4”x6” layer of Country Woods DSP, then to a 4-1/4”x6-1/4” layer of Winter Wheat Cardstock and glued it to the Memories & More Card in Basic White. I used a scrap to stamp my sentiment, then used the middle rectangle die from the Wild Fern Dies, and added another scrap of DSP as a boarder (approximately 1-1/16”x2-1/2”).

I cut out three of the little ferns in Winter Wheat CS, then tucked them in under the corner of the sentiment. I added a fern stamp in Winter Wheat ink to the envelope and the same DSP to the envelope flap. Again, simple but stunning results!

Fall

Last October, my husband and I were looking for fall color in one of the Minnesota State Parks and the bright green ferns popped out at me. Ferns do die back in the winter but are one of the miracles of nature that come back even bigger each year! I love celebrating the sweet resilient ferns with this scrapbook layout.

For this layout, I used two sheets of Country Woods 12”x12” DSP and stamped all four of the ferns in Granny Apple Green all over the edges of the DSP. For my photos, I used a 8-3/4”x11-1/4” layer of Winter Wheat with an 8 -1/2”x11” layer of Pebbled Path CS, stamped with the linen stamp in Wild Ferns in Pebbled Path ink and adhered it to my stamped scrapbook base.

For my photo layer, I typically have 3-1/2”x5” photos, and so cut out 4 each of Country Woods DSP at 4”x5-1/2”. I used some scrap Granny Apple Green CS and die cut out 3 of the fern frames and ferns from a retired set of dies called Iconic Dies. I then die cut out more ferns from both dies sets and the mushrooms in the Gold Mercury Vellum and Basic White CS.

I tucked the fern frames under the Country Woods photo frames, then adhered them to my Pebbled Path CS. I then placed the ferns and mushrooms as shown using a mix of Stampin’ Dimensionals and Glue Dots.

Abundance

Another item that always catches my eye on my walks are mushrooms! There is something so fun about them and these Spiny Puffballs were so cute!

I used the same design elements as with the prior page, but added a few scrap watercolored leaves from my Changing Leaves post earlier this month. Check out my blog on Changing Leaves.

I love the whimsy of the die cut mushrooms in both Basic White and the Gold Mercury Vellum with a few hints of Granny Apple Green Wild Ferns Dies and Iconic Dies. It all draws my heart to get back out into the State Parks and do more discovery!

My hope is that you are inspired to get some of your photos of everyday things into a scrapbook of memories you can share with those you love and enjoy recalling the best of times…
